Celtic and Norse loanwords in the OE glosses on the Lindisfarne Gospels

In this paper I will consider some loanwords that may show the role played by both Celtic-speaking peoples and Scandinavians in the development of Northumbrian as a distinctive dialect within the OE continuum. The corpus used will be the glosses on the Latin text of the Gospels as it appears in the famous Lindisfarne MS (c. 950). Some comparative references will also be made to the other major OE version of this particular text, namely, the West-Saxon translation issued one century later.
