I was born in Jaén (Spain) on 7th June 1980. I got my Bachelor in Chemistry at the University of Jaén in July of 2002 and started my PhD studies in October of the same year. From October of 2003 to date I have a pre-Doctoral Research Grant afforded by the Fundación Ramón Areces, having got my Master of Research (MPhil) in October of 2005. I teach Laboratory of Chemistry in the Technical Engineering School at the University of Jaén.

The aim of my PhD research is the theoretical and experimental study of the molecular structure and the vibrational spectra of trialkylsilane derivatives with the general formula R3SiX (with R=CH3, CH2CH3 and X=H, F, Cl, Br, I, OCH3, OCHCH2, OH). Alkylsilanols are well known intermediates in sol-gel processes of organosilicon compounds for the obtention of industrial interest products. Vibrational spectroscopy is a powerful tool for monitoring these reactions, but to use it, a deep knowledge of the vibrational spectra of the species taking part is required. However, silanols are highly reactive and prone to polycondensation species.

For this reason, the study of related, although more simple and stable, molecular species could be helpful to achieve a better description (or prediction) of the skeletal modes in silanols, which may be obtained applying a set of scale factors for the force constants transferred from more simple and stable molecular species (SQMFF methodology). Trialkylsilyl derivatives of the type R3SiX, being X a hydrogen or halogen atom, may be appropriate for this task.

I have also taken part in the study of other molecular systems, using the same tools, i.e., experimental spectroscopic techniques (IR, Raman and INS) and Quantum Mechanical calculations (ab-initio and DFT).

Additionally, I am working in collaboration with the CAAI (Andalusian Iberic Archaeology Center) in the determination of the chemical composition of pigments and coverings found in archaeological remains dated back to the iberian period, by means of the use of micro-Raman spectroscopy.
