Researchers employed by the University of Jaén will be automatically registered with the National Social Security System. This system provides employees and their families with access to healthcare in Spain and to a series of social benefits when needed. Via this system, all workers contribute to the social security system. At UJA, social security contributions will be automatically deducted from your monthly pay.
The Social Security System offers four main types of economic benefits: pensions, grants, compensation and other benefits (such as unemployment benefits). As the EURAXESS Spain website explains, you can apply for your retirement pension when you reach a certain age, terminate (or have terminated) all or part of the employment activity for which you were registered on the Social Security System and provide documentary proof of the contribution period in question.
Contributory pensions for members of the Social Security System can be applications if the following age requirements and minimum contribution period are met, as described on the Social Security website:
Your contributions will depend on your gross monthly salary (updated information about social security contributions can be found on the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration website). For more information, please visit your local Social Security Office. The main offices of the National Social Security Institute (INSS) are located at Avenida de Madrid 70 in Jaén (23009) and Plaza Alfonso XII 4 in Linares (23700).
