The “Analytical Chemistry at Jaén University” research group is an excellence group recognized as such by the Andalusian Research Plan. It carries out its activity in the field of Analytical Chemistry and Chemical Analysis in general. The group comprises a large team of professionals with expertise in Analytical Chemistry, with extensive experience and a modern and powerful instrumentation infrastructure.

The group has comprehensive equipment in place, of which the following are noteworthy:

  1. Gas chromatographs coupled to mass spectrometers
  2. Liquid chromatographs coupled to mass spectrometers
  3. Atomic absorption with graphite chamber and hydride generator
  4. Inductively coupled plasma with mass-spectrometric detection
  5. Spectrofluorometers
  6. UV-visible, NIR, MIR, Raman spectrophotometers
  7. Luminometer
  8. Automatic nitrogen distiller/analyzer
  9. Mineralizer
  10. Stoves, muffle furnaces

  • Mass-spectrometry applications to species with low molecular weight
  • Extraction and characterization of compounds of interest in biofuels and natural products
  • Detection and quantification of organic contaminants and other compounds of interest in virgin olive oil, olives and subproducts
  • Development of sample treatment methods for trace analysis
  • Application of spectroscopic and separation techniques for analyzing chemical compounds of industrial, agrifoods, pharmacological, environmental and historic-artistic heritage interest
