RNM-175 Biodiversity and Sustainable Development

A Research Group comprising a multidisciplinary team of Biologists, Veterinarians, Forestry Engineers, Agricultural Engineers and Mathematicians concerned about the sustainable management and conservation of Mediterranean ecosystems in southern Spain. The main objective is to enable improved decision-taking in managing protected species, game species and/or predators within the context of sustainable use and conservation of biodiversity in Special Conservation Areas of Andalusia.

  • Hunting, husbandry and conservation of wildlife
  • Studies on abundance and population dynamic of Mediterranean vertebrates
  • Study of body and health condition, reproductive status and growth cycles of game mammals
  • Development of bioindicators as new monitoring tools for cervid populations and their habitats
  • Intra- and inter-specific differences in diet, habitat selection and use of space and time between Cervus elaphus and Dama dama in Mediterranean ecosystems
  • Studies of bone and dental histology in Mediterranean vertebrates and their application in current wildlife and in paleoecology
  • Monitoring of populations of Canis lupus signatus and Lynx pardinus in Eastern Sierra Morena
