Requirements for the Defense of the Thesis
The Academic Commission establishes the following minimum quality criteria for the authorization of the evaluation and defense procedure of the doctoral thesis: a minimum of two articles published or accepted, with the doctoral candidate being the first author of at least one of them. The quality of the contributions will be accredited in the field of specialization according to the criteria established by the National Commission for the Evaluation of Research Activity (CNEAI) as having high or medium relevance, with articles included in Journal Citation Reports (JCR), Science Edition in quartiles Q1 or Q2 being accepted. For other contributions deemed of high or medium relevance by CNEAI (articles in quartile Q3, reference conferences, or patents in exploitation), they may be accepted but will always be subject to the evaluation of the Academic Commission.
In all cases, the Commission will assess the appropriateness of the publications to authorize the defense of the thesis and, particularly, their relevance to the title of the thesis and the research plan. Furthermore, the publications must have been accepted during the doctoral studies; however, one of the publications may have been accepted up to one year prior to enrollment in the program.
Students who began their doctoral studies prior to the approval of these requirements will be evaluated by the Commission, taking this into account. In any case, the Academic Commission of the Program is responsible for evaluating the minimum quality criteria and, if necessary, authorizing or rejecting, with justification, the initiation of the procedure.
Requirements for the Thesis by Compendium of Publications
The Academic Commission establishes the following criteria for presenting the doctoral thesis as a compilation of works published by the doctoral candidate: a minimum of three articles, with the doctoral candidate being the first author of at least two of them, and the articles must be published or accepted. The quality of the contributions will be accredited in the field of specialization according to the criteria established by the National Commission for the Evaluation of Research Activity (CNEAI) as having high or medium relevance.
In all cases, the Commission will assess the suitability of the publications to authorize the defense of the thesis and, particularly, their relationship with the thesis title and the research plan. Furthermore, the publications must have been accepted during the doctoral studies; however, one of the publications may have been accepted up to one year prior to enrollment in the program.
