Erasmus+ KA171 - Our project

KA171

Description

The University of Jaén is strongly committed to internationalization. It views this process as a crucial way to create opportunities for both its students and faculty, extending these academic collaborations to various global regions. This initiative aims to foster interculturality and enhance the institution's academic impact.

In this context, the Erasmus+ KA171 program is fundamental. Its objective is to drive internationalization and strengthen educational and training capacities, as well as improve the employability of students and teaching staff outside the European Union. To achieve this, the University of Jaén offers specific Erasmus+ KA171 grants for academic mobilities in non-associated third countries (extra-community), with which it has established Erasmus+ Inter-institutional Agreements. Each call for applications provides detailed information on participating countries and institutions, the duration of stays, and the amount of available grants.

Thanks to this commitment and effort, the University of Jaén has achieved a privileged position in the field of internationalization. It has been selected as one of the four institutions with the highest funding in Spain during the 2022, 2023, and 2024 calls, accumulating total funding close to 4 million euros during this period.

The University of Jaén (UJA) has achieved a prominent position in the Erasmus+ KA171 program, which funds mobilities with non-European non-associated countries. In recent calls (2022, 2023, and 2024), the UJA has been one of the Spanish institutions with the highest funding, which has allowed it to establish a wide network of collaborations.

Currently, the UJA has approved projects with more than 100 universities from 45 countries. Among the regions and countries with which the University of Jaén has established agreements and promotes mobility through the KA171 program, the following stand out:

  • Western Balkans
  • Eastern Neighbourhood
  • Southern Mediterranean
  • Central Asia
  • Middle East
  • Sub-Saharan Africa
  • Latin America
  • Caribbean

This extensive network of partners allows the University of Jaén to offer numerous mobility opportunities to students, teaching and research staff (PDI), and administrative and service technical staff (PTGAS) to and from these regions.

The University of Jaén (UJA) is actively driving the diversification of its internationalization strategy through the KA171 action. Its goal is to increase the impact of the mobilities and activities envisioned in these projects, seeking synergies with other academic actions and initiatives.

This approach translates into a significant increase in impact on our local environment, thanks to inbound mobilities that facilitate knowledge exchange, the implementation of cooperative teaching initiatives, doctoral supervision, and the development of joint research projects. Furthermore, these mobilities contribute to the cultural enrichment of our cities, Jaén and Linares, located in an area traditionally removed from main tourist routes, adding a new international dimension.

The University of Jaén (UJA) actively pursues synergies with other academic initiatives, including cooperation projects, capacity building in the various geographical regions it collaborates with, and international research projects. This multilateral approach in structuring sub-projects across different regions is designed to multiply joint initiatives and foster the active participation of the university communities involved. This is a clear example seen in the various reverse Staff Weeks that the UJA organizes annually in the different geographical regions with funding.

Additionally, the UJA ensures that these priorities align with the fundamental pillars of the European Union, promoting universal values and leveraging the institution's intrinsic strengths and those from our Alliance of European Universities, guaranteeing a comprehensive and relevant impact in all its projects.

Moreover, the UJA's cultural and social framework is significantly enriched. The presence of students from over 80 nationalities on our Jaén and Linares campuses fosters deep intercultural enrichment, solidifying the UJA as one of the most prominent destinations for attracting international students in southern Spain. This diversity is complemented by the visibility of intercultural initiatives and the celebration of international days, promoting a global and open environment.

Finally, the UJA focuses on strengthening projects with our international partners, seeking lasting and mutually beneficial collaborations that reinforce its position as a benchmark in university internationalization.
