The present invention pertains to the medical or pharmaceutical field. Particulary, it refers to the use of specific polymers for the preparation of a hydrogel for encapsulating mature chondrocytes or mesenchymal stem cells induced to differentiate into chondrocytes. The present invention also refers to pharmaceutical compositions comprising a population of mature chondrocytes or mesenchymal stem cells, preferably mesenchymal stem cellsinduced to differentiate into chondrocytes, or the secretome secreted from said cells, encapsulated within a hydrogel.
