Santander Grants | Predoctoral Financial Aid

Objetives

Under this Program, the quality of higher education and the research activity of predoctoral research personnel in training who are enrolled in or have an employment, academic, or research relationship with Spanish universities and/or research centers with agreements with Santander or Banco Santander Foundation (hereinafter, the "Institution/s") will be promoted and encouraged. This support consists of financial aid.
Specifically, it aims to support:
- Undergraduate or master's students participating in research initiation programs through stays in research groups or institutes of the Institution;
- Predoctoral research personnel in training and PhD students, promoting the development of doctorates through aid for training, mobility, top-up stipends for predoctoral contracts, research awards, grants for publishing theses or high-impact journal articles, or other expenses derived from their research work (hereinafter, the "Grant/s").

Eligible Candidates

Candidates eligible to benefit from this Program include:
▪ Undergraduate or master's students enrolled at the Institutions who participate in research initiation programs through stays in research groups or institutes of the Institution;
▪ Predoctoral research personnel in training residing in Spain who are enrolled in or have an employment, academic, or research relationship with the Institutions (hereinafter, the "Candidates") at the time of application.In any case, Candidates must meet the criteria listed in the Grant allocation section.

Grant Terms and Conditions

The grant amount awarded to each beneficiary will be €2,000, funded under the general collaboration agreements signed between Santander and the University of Jaén.

Receiving the Grant under this Program is compatible with other assistance-type aid of a similar or different nature, regardless of its public or private origin, accessible to the predoctoral researcher conducting their training under this framework.

Grant Allocation Among Candidates

The University of Jaén will determine the list of candidates from which the beneficiary will be selected.

The deadline for Grant allocation by the University of Jaén is November 10, 2026. This allocation will be communicated to the beneficiary, who will have 7 calendar days to accept it via the Platform.

The University of Jaén will transfer the Grant amount to an account held in the Beneficiary's name. To promote financial inclusion, Banco Santander includes a fee-free current account in its commercial offer. Details regarding its conditions will be provided after registration in the Program to beneficiaries who consented via Santander Open Academy. The Program will close on December 31, 2026.

Taxation

Grants will be subject to applicable tax regulations in force at any given time, specifically Personal Income Tax (IRPF) provisions. This may result in tax withholdings by the Institutions and an obligation for the beneficiary to include the relevant amounts in their annual tax return (compliance with tax obligations remains the sole responsibility of the beneficiary).

Monitoring

The University of Jaén will carry out effective monitoring of the Program in accordance with its standard procedures and prepare a report containing monitoring information that Santander may request upon completion of the call.

Acceptance of Terms

Applying for this Program call implies acceptance of these legal terms by the candidates. Banco Santander reserves the right to interpret these terms. It also reserves the right to partially or fully modify or rectify any terms and conditions of the call at any time, or suspend, postpone, or cancel it for objective, duly justified reasons, aimed at preserving its intended social impact. Candidates will be notified of any changes via the Platform.

Applicable Law

The Program, these terms, the participation of Institutions, and its overall development and execution are governed by Spanish law.

Selection Process:

Award Criteria

1. Primary Ranking Criterion: Financial aid will be awarded on a competitive basis. Admitted applications will be ranked in descending order according to the official grade point average (GPA) of the applicant's Bachelor's degree.

2. Tie-Breaking Criterion: In the event of a tie using the primary criterion, the official GPA of the applicant's Master's degree will serve as the tiebreaker.

3. Assessment of Foreign Qualifications: For degrees obtained in foreign university systems, the GPA will be evaluated based on the score listed in the official Grade Equivalency Statement for foreign studies issued by the competent authority.

The resulting ordered list will determine the beneficiaries and generate a alternate list for filling vacancies resulting from withdrawals, ranked by score.

Registration

To receive a Grant, candidates must register for the Program via the Platform, preferably using their official University of Jaén email address. Award notifications will be delivered through the management system enabled for Institutions on the Platform.

Registration for predoctoral candidates must take place between MAY 7 and OCTOBER 1, 2026.

The completed and signed document must be sent to sgi-convocatorias [arroba] ujaen [punto] es along with the official Bachelor's transcript. For foreign degrees, the Grade Equivalency Statement must also be included.
