Action R.1.a. Projects for Young Researchers

Objetives

To promote leadership among early-career researchers and support the launch of innovative new lines of research. The main goal is to assist in kicking off the research outlined in selected projects, equipping early-career researchers to enter upcoming competitive calls with higher chances of success.

Conditions

  • Those specified in both the general regulations and the corresponding call text.
  • Two-year project duration (maximum of €10,000 per project).
  • Subject to budget availability, a maximum of two projects will be funded per knowledge branch: UJA Engineering and Architecture, UJA Social and Legal Sciences, UJA Arts and Humanities, UJA Health Sciences, and UJA Experimental Sciences.
  • Only novel research lines proposed by emerging teams led by early-career researchers will be funded.
  • The call may include a project tutor or mentor role, with requirements and duties to be defined in the call itself.

Applicant Requirements

  • Must not have served as Lead Principal Investigator (PI) for a competitively funded project prior to the application deadline.
  • Must be UJA teaching and research staff holding a Ph.D. with a contractual link to UJA throughout the entire grant period.
  • Must not have any external funding for the submitted project.
  • Thesis defense date must be January 2018 or later.
  • Projects may have a PI and a Co-PI; both must meet the above requirements.
  • For research team members:
    • UJA Personnel: Must be UJA teaching and research staff holding a Ph.D. with a contractual link to UJA throughout the entire grant period.
    • External Personnel: Must provide authorization from their home institution guaranteeing their affiliation for the entire grant period.

Application Submission

Applications must be submitted through the University of Jaén Electronic Secretariat (Sede Electrónica), attaching all required documentation specified in the call.

Evaluation Criteria

The call will define evaluation criteria considering the proposed project proposal, the feasibility of planned activities, the competitiveness of the proposal, and the applicants' Abbreviated Curriculum Vitae (CVA).

Beneficiary Obligations

  • Execute the planned work plan.
  • Submit a final project report to the Vice-Rectorate for Research and Knowledge Transfer.
  • Mandatory submission of a project proposal to regional, national, or international competitive calls during the project lifecycle or within one year following its completion.
  • Mandatory public dissemination of scientific project results.
  • Compliance with requirements established in both the general regulations and the relevant call text.
