Action R.2.a (Track 1) Introductory Research Scholarships

Objective

Promote basic research training for UJA students who have achieved high academic performance through supervised research work.

Conditions

  • Requirements specified in both the general rules and the text of the corresponding call for applications.
  • Grants can be requested by students enrolled in bachelor's or master's degree programs at the University of Jaén. Students already enrolled in doctoral programs are explicitly excluded.
  • Grants will have a maximum amount of €1,200, distributed as follows:
  • An amount of €500 will be awarded for bachelor's degree students, paid in a single installment following the grant award resolution.
  • An amount of €700 will be awarded for master's degree students, paid in a single installment following the grant award resolution, or, in the case of students coming from a bachelor's degree, after proving enrollment in a master's degree program for the academic year following the award of the grant.

Applicant Requirements

  • Be enrolled during the academic year in which the call is published in a bachelor's or master's degree program at the University of Jaén.
  • For bachelor's degree students: Have completed at least 75% of the credits for their degree program.
  • A grade point average (GPA) for the completed credits mentioned above equal to or higher than the minimum score per Branch of Knowledge specified in each specific call of this modality.
  • Submit a proposal of up to 2,000 words outlining the research activity to be conducted, along with a favorable report from the supervisor.
  • The research supervisor must hold a PhD, be employed full-time by the University of Jaén, and may only support one application for this modality per call.

Application Process

Applications must be submitted through the Electronic Office (Sede Electrónica) of the University of Jaén, attaching the documentation required in the call.

Evaluation Criteria

  • Grade point average (GPA) of the applicant's bachelor's degree transcript (on a 10-point scale).
  • Having held a Departmental Collaboration Grant from the Ministry of Science, Innovation, and Universities: 1 point.

Beneficiary Obligations

  • Submit a brief report of activities related to the development of their research work at the end of the grant period.
  • Requirements specified in both the general rules and the text of the corresponding call.
  • To evaluate the medium- and long-term impact of this initiative, the University of Jaén will track beneficiaries who apply for and complete master's studies (especially research-oriented ones) after completing the initiation-to-research grant. This will include analyzing their subsequent return to UJA, their connection to consolidated or emerging research groups, and their potential continuity in a research career through R&D&i contracts, grants, or projects, aiming to assess the effectiveness of this measure as a tool for identifying, recruiting, and retaining research talent.
