Action R.2.a (Track 2.1) Pre-doctoral Contracts

Objective

Promotion of the training of early-stage researchers from the beginning of their research careers. This grant modality aims to support the completion of doctoral theses within the various research teams at the University of Jaén and to enhance UJA PhD programs. Furthermore, it seeks to encourage doctoral theses under joint supervision (co-tutelle) and/or with an International Doctorate mention. The Research Committee will ensure a balanced distribution of grants by awarding the same number of contracts to each Branch of Knowledge.

Conditions

  • Contracts will last up to four years. Renewal for each year will require a favorable report from the Academic Committee of the PhD Program or, where applicable, the Doctoral School, for the entire duration of enrollment in the program. Under no circumstances may the cumulative duration of the initial contract plus extensions exceed four years, except in exceptional cases, such as those specifically provided for in Law 17/2022, of September 5, amending Law 14/2011, of June 1, on Science, Technology, and Innovation.
  • In accordance with the current doctoral training system, the first three years will be predoctoral, and the fourth year will be postdoctoral if the thesis has been defended.
  • Contracts are intended for research teams with accredited external funding obtained through competitive calls under the State Plan for Scientific and Technical Research and Innovation, regional plans, Collaborative R&D&I, or the European Framework Program, and with at least one active research project on the application deadline of the call.
  • A research project may only be awarded one predoctoral contract from the internal funding plan while active.
  • This contract includes the possibility of completing a three-month international short stay funded by the Vice-Rectorate for Research and Knowledge Transfer to promote the attainment of the International Doctorate mention for UJA doctoral theses.
  • Only graduates who obtained their degree up to a maximum of five years prior to the application deadline of the call are eligible to apply.
  • Beneficiaries may engage in teaching activities within the subject area of their thesis supervisor, up to the maximum limit established in the FPU call active on the date the resolution is issued.
  • Contract recipients will comply with the regulations established by the UJA Doctoral School. An unfavorable report will result in the termination of the contract.
  • Salary remuneration will be determined in the specific call.

Applicant Requirements

  • Have not held a predoctoral contract for a period exceeding twelve months.
  • Fulfill the remaining eligibility criteria set forth in the specific call.
