Internationalisation at home

Acción 2024_25

The internationalisation actions at home are part of the University of Jaén's strategy to make the benefits of internationalisation accessible to the entire university community, outside the classic schemes of mobility or experiences abroad. This inclusive approach seeks to promote, among other issues, language training for both UJA students and teaching staff, the development of global, linguistic and multicultural competences through non-official training (such as Combined Intensive Programmes, or BIPs), or the internationalisation of teaching through innovative experiences of online collaborative learning or virtual exchanges between UJA members and students and teaching staff from other universities abroad.

The Vice-Rectorate for Internationalisation, with the intention of promoting the international projection of the activity and community of our university, is working to set up different actions aimed at the implementation of different initiatives in the following areas:

  • Collaborative Virtual Learning with Foreign Universities

  • Promotion of participation in Erasmus+ KA2, KA3 and Jean Monnet International Projects.

  • Combined Intensive Programmes (BIPs)

  • Language Training and Accreditation

  • International skills training

International Collaborative Virtual Learning

This type of experience seeks to promote the implementation of joint teaching activities, in teams, framed in subjects of programmes taught at UJA and in other international partner universities, making use of technological tools to connect students and teachers. These initiatives generate internationalisation experiences with significant learning, linking students to a multicultural and collaborative environment, and strengthen the link between teaching staff, giving rise to new opportunities for professional development and research in an international context.

Although their design may differ depending on the collaboration, these initiatives are generally based on COIL (Collaborative Online International Learning), a teaching and learning methodology developed by Jon Rubin at the State University of New York (SUNY). In particular, Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) is a learning methodology based on interaction and collaboration between two classes from two countries developing a jointly designed activity. It is an approach that, as part of a classroom, connects students and faculty from different cultures to learn, discuss and collaborate with each other.

International projects

International projects are high-impact tools in the process of internationalisation of the University's academic activity, enabling the acquisition of experience in international academic cooperation and capacity building. Among the different existing actions, the Erasmus+ programme and its key actions 2 and 3, or Jean Monnet Actions, stand out for their versatility and aim to support the development, transfer or implementation of innovative practices, as well as the implementation of joint initiatives that foster cooperation, peer learning and exchange of experiences at European and global level.

For all these reasons, the Vice-Rectorate for Internationalisation of the UJA intends to promote the leadership of our institution in the application for Erasmus+ actions in the field of Higher Education, in order to increase the impact of internationalisation in our academic activity. Moreover, from the academic year 2024/2025, this promotion will be accompanied and supported by the International Relations and Cooperation Service, for the submission of applications.

Combined Intensive Programmes (BIP)

Blended Intensive Programmes (BIPs) are short programmes that use innovative forms of learning and teaching. The programmes can include challenge-based learning, where transnational and transdisciplinary teams work together to solve challenges, such as those linked to the Sustainable Development Goals or other societal challenges identified by regions, cities or companies. These programmes are funded under the Erasmus+ KA131 programme, and aim to foster blended student mobility to complement their training, opening up opportunities for more flexible mobility without the barriers that often limit participation in traditional mobility through official study programme subjects.

Language Training and Accreditation

The University of Jaén offers, through the Centre for Advanced Studies in Modern Languages (CEALM), language training courses in foreign languages for the whole community, as well as Spanish courses for mobility students and beneficiaries of the Talent Attraction programme. In addition, the CEALM organises foreign language accreditation exams. Part of these actions are contemplated in the PDI 2024-2027 Training Plan, with actions that will be developed in the field of Language Training and Foreign Languages as a means of instruction, among others.

International skills training

Education in an international context, whether through other languages or in an intercultural environment, empowers new generations of students and university staff to face a global and interconnected world, equipping them with skills with a social impact that transcends borders.

Below are the different opportunities and training resources open to the UJA community.

This section will be updated periodically with the initiatives that are being prepared in the international area of UJA

NEOTeAch - Implementation of pilot projects for innovative experiences in knowledge dissemination

The aim is to receive academic project proposals for the NEOTeAch programme, within the framework of the activities of the European University Alliance NEOLAiA. The group work project to be developed by the students must be integrated in a subject of a bachelor's or master's degree of the University of Jaén within the academic year 2024/25.
