Become a qualified researcher in Economic, Business and Social sciences under the supervision of world-wide acknowledged scientists
The background that allows us to argue the academic, scientific and research interest of this Interuniversity Doctorate Programme in Economic, Business and Legal Sciences from the University of Almería; the University of Jaén and the Polytechnic University of Cartagena lies on three pillars: The implementation of the teaching of the Degrees in Law, Labor Relations, Management and Public Administration, Economics, Administration and Business Management, Marketing and Research of Markets and Tourism, The teaching of the legal Masters in "Recruitment, Negotiation and Business", "Agri-food Law and business development" and "Public Administration". As well as the Masters in Business Administration and Accounting and Corporate Finance.
This doctoral programme covers the wide research potential of the areas of knowledge related to Economics and Business at the University of Jaén, together with the research projects developed in said areas. In addition, there is previous experience in the Doctoral Programme in Social and Legal Sciences (regulated by RD 1393/2007) in which a significant number of doctoral theses were defended. Likewise, this doctoral programme has as its precedent the Research Programme in Business Economics of the University of Almería, which received the Mention of Excellence from the Ministry.

The mission of the programme is to provide advanced research training in the areas of Economics and Business Management and Administration. Specifically, it aims to provide the skills and competencies necessary to make complex decisions in dynamic business environments and to design and carry out innovative and applied research in the fields of economics and management.
In the same way, it provides the key skills to disseminate quality research results both in the teaching field, as well as in international forums and impact journals related to the aforementioned fields.

The ideal entry profile to make the most of the opportunities offered by the Interuniversity Doctorate in Economic, Business and Legal Sciences is that of a person like you, with an interest in the development of research in social and legal sciences and its multiple opportunities, With investigative aptitudes and curiosity, ability to interpret and apply knowledge, critical analysis and synthesis, and with basic management of computer tools and English.
General access requirements for Doctoral Programmes at the University of Jaen
In general, access to an official doctoral programme is available to persons in possession of a Spanish official bachelor's degree, or equivalent, and a university master's degree.
Access is also available to persons who meet one of the following conditions:
- Being in possession of an official Spanish university qualification, or one of another member country of the European Higher Education Area, which qualifies them for access to a master's degree in accordance with the provisions of Article 16 of Royal Decree 1393/2007, of October 29, and having obtained a minimum of 300 ECTS credits in all official university studies, of which at least 60 must be at master's level.
- Being in possession of an official Spanish degree whose duration, according to the rules of Community law, is at least 300 ECTS credits. These graduates must attend the mandatory bridging courses referred to in Article 7.2 of these regulations, unless the curriculum of said degree includes research training credits equivalent in educational value to the research credits obtained in master’s degree courses.
- Being in possession of a university degree and, after obtaining a training place in the entrance test to specialized medical training, having obtained a positive evaluation in at least two years of training in a programme to obtain an official degree in one of the Health Science specialties.
- Being in possession of a degree obtained under a foreign education system, without need for official recognition, after the University has verified that said degree accredits a level of education equivalent to the Spanish official master´s degree and allows admission to doctoral studies in the country issuing the qualification. In no case shall this admission imply the official recognition of the original qualification held by the individual or its recognition for purposes other than access to doctoral studies. Regardless of this, the doctoral degree obtained will be officially valid in Spain.
- Being in possession of a Bachelor, Architect or Engineer degree and also having achieved the Diploma de Estudios Avanzados in accordance with the provisions of Royal Decree 778/1998, of April 30, or the research proficiency stipulated in the Royal Decree 185/1985, of January 23.
- Being in possession of another Spanish doctoral degree obtained under earlier university regulations.
Specific access requirements for entering the Doctoral Programme in Economic, Business and Legal Sciences
A set of admission requirements are established to study this Doctorate that will take into account the previous studies from which it is accessed. Thus, a distinction is made between prior training that provides direct access and other training that requires additional training. Specifically:
A) Direct access (without training supplements)
Those students who are in possession of the degree in any of the following Masters will have direct access to the Doctorate:
- Master's Degree in Business Law and Agri-food Activity from the UAL
- Master's Degree in Law and Local Administration from the UAL
- Master's Degree in Sustainable Local Development and Codevelopment by the UAL
- Master's Degree in Business Administration from the UAL
- Master's Degree in Business Management from the UAL
- Master's Degree in Business Administration and Management from the UPCT
- Master's Degree in Administration and Management of Tourism Companies and Institutions from the UPCT
- Interuniversity Master in Accounting and Corporate Finance (UPCT Interuniversity with UAL)
- Master's Degree in Administration and Management of Social Economy Entities from the UPCT
- Master's Degree in Guidance and Labor Intermediation (UPCT Inter-university with the UMU
- Interuniversity Master in Local Development and Employment (UPCT Interuniversity with the UMU)
- Master's Degree in Business Administration (MBA) from the UJA
- Master's Degree in Land Transport Engineering and Logistics from the UJA
- Master in Economics and Territorial Development from the UJA
- Master in Marketing and Consumer Behavior (Interuniversity between the UJA and UGR)
- Master in Olive Grove, Olive Oil and Health from the UJA
- Official Master's Degree in Automation and Remote Control for the Management of Water and Energy Resources, coordinated by the Miguel Hernández University of Elche and the UPCT
- Master's Degree in Advanced Techniques in Agricultural and Food Research and Development
- Master's Degree in Land Transport Engineering and Logistics from the UJA
- Master in Economics and Territorial Development from the UJA
- Master in Marketing and Consumer Behavior (interuniversity UJA and UGR)
- Have completed an official Master's degree of a research nature, whose contents are recognized as related by the Academic Committee of the Doctoral Programme. In the case of having completed a mixed researcher-professional master's degree, the student must certify having passed an itinerary and research master's final project.
Likewise, those students who are in possession of the Advanced Studies Diploma of the predecessor Doctoral Programmess will have direct access to the Doctoral Programme.
Given the inter-university nature of the study, the academic committee may establish and publish those new master's degrees that are considered appropriate to give access to the study.
B) Access with training supplements:
For those cases not contemplated in the previous section, the Academic Committee of the Degree may estimate the need for the student to carry out additional training, up to a maximum of 24 credits. These complements will preferably be chosen among the subjects of the Master's Degrees indicated above that provide direct access, which will preferably be taken during the first year of study, and in any case, before the end of the studies.
Admission criteria
Two preference criteria are considered:
- The students who come from the Masters with direct access indicated above will have preference in admission over the rest.
- Next, students who come from studies related to Economic, Business and Legal Sciences will be taken into account.
Likewise, the admission body will apply the following criterias:
- Average grade of the academic record (60%).
- Curriculum vitae. Previous experience in research and teaching will be valued (20%)
- Connection through Scholarship or Contract to the university (20%)
Part-time dedication students: The requirements and admission criteria will be common for full-time and part-time students, who will have to establish and justify their dedication in the admission application.
According to the rules for enrolment of the University of Jaen, application for doctoral studies is open during the complete year. Application and enrolment in doctoral studies can be done through the University Servicio de Gestión Académica.
There are three periods for application and registration during the year. Places not covered in one period will be added to next period´s offer.

Academic Information
The doctorate is structured around lines of research that are developed by the teaching staff of the programme who will supervise your research training. The person who performs tutoring tasks will guide you in the activities of the program and may or may not coincide with the person who performs management tasks.
Tutoring will be carried out by UJA staff. While the direction can be carried out both by UJA personnel and by external personnel.

During the course of your PhD thesis, you will be asked to take a set of training activities aimed at achieving the main competences that every PhD from the University of Jaen must develop by the end of doctoral studies.
In addition, the Interuniversity Doctorate Program in Economic, Business and Legal Sciences offers you a set of specific training activities, aimed at acquiring the skills inherent to the programme.
Compulsory training activities:
- Transversal competences Doctoral Course:
- General: Framework of doctoral studies.
- General: Framework of scientific research. Research policies.
- General: Design and follow-up of research projects.
- General: Knowledge transfer.
- General: Dissemination of research results.
- General: Employment and researcher career.
- Specific. Relevant contribution from the PhD thesis.
Optional training activities:
- General. Doctoral conference for young researchers
- Specific. Active participation in seminars, conferences, courses and workshops
- Specific. Short-term visit (minimum three months) to a foreign research institution (compulsory for students willing to achieve the International mention in their PhD degree).

PhD students must pass a yearly evaluation of their activities. This includes general compulsory activities of doctoral studies and specific optional activities offered by the programme. After enrolment, you will receive a link for completion of your Student´s record of training activities and Research plan. All the student´s activities will be registered and certified according to an established procedure.
PhD students will annually accredit the completion of a minimum of three different specific training activities within the following six categories:
- Courses on scientific methodology. Bibliographic search and information management. Transversal competences in research. Qualitative and quantitative methodology in economics and business research.
- Participation in congresses, seminars and scientific meetings.
- Courses, seminars or training on job placement, entrepreneurship, protection of research activity results, communication, dissemination and dissemination of research, preparation and monitoring of research projects, etc.
- Publication of articles.
- Advanced research seminars.
- Mobility.
However, the academic committee may report favorably on the activities document with a specific annual activity as long as it is adequately justified.
The program ends with the defense of the doctoral thesis.
After completion of the Research Plan and Training activities, students may proceed to the public defense of their PhD thesis once the thesis has received initial approval from the PhD thesis supervisor(s) and the Academic Committee of the PhD programme as well as final approval from the Steering Committee of the Doctoral School. In order to receive this approval, the thesis must have achieved a relevant contribution signed by the PhD student as first author. This relevant contribution may be in the evaluation process, have been accepted or published by the corresponding publisher. The adequacy of the contribution will be determined according to the criteria established by the Comisión Nacional Evaluadora de la Actividad Investigadora (CNEAI) for the main areas of research and knowledge.
The doctoral thesis may be developed and defended in any of the languages commonly used for scientific communication in its field of research. If the thesis is written in a foreign language, it must include a document written in Spanish and signed by the thesis supervisor(s) containing the following information: title of the thesis, table of contents, introduction, a meaningful summary and conclusions. Consult the procedures related to the procedures of your doctoral thesis as well as access to the RAPI platform. Consult the rules for defending your thesis that appear in the Regulations for Doctoral Studies of the University of Jaén. Broadening your experience in other universities now becomes essential in a scenario where information, enterprise and society are globalized. Short-term visits (of at least 3 months) to a foreing institution allow doctoral students to achieve the International mention in their diploma. In addition, the option of Joint Supervision allows you to achieve a PhD degree issued simultaneously by University of Jaen and by a foreign university. Under this modality of study, you will be assigned a thesis supervisor in each of the participating universities under the conditions laid down in the corresponding cotutelle agreement.
PhD students may also spend part or most of their training period in a company. The mention of Industrial Doctorate can be obtained provided that the topic of the thesis is embedded in the research strategy of a company to which the doctoral student is bound by a contractual agreement.
There are different sources of short-term mobility grants for doctoral students: FPU, FPI, PAIDI, Plan Operativo de Apoyo a la Investigación from the University of Jaen, Doctoral School, Erasmus mobility grants, and the Campuses of International Excellence.

Coordination and Quality
The academic coordination commission is the collegiate body in charge of direction and academic management of the title. It interacts directly with the students and is in charge of programming the academic activities offered to the students, preparing the calendar, as well as other academic aspects necessary for an optimal development of the title. It will also be in charge of introducing the modifications included in the improvement process proposed by the title´s Quality Assurance System.

The quality assurance system of the University of Jaén is structured in two levels of responsibility.
